Blog Upgraded to WordPress 2.7
It has been months since i last worked on this blog. And i have ignored the message on wordpress admin to upgrade, today i finally gave in and i like the new WordPress. From the look of it, it looks very polished and well though of. It seems much easier to user and faster (when i enabled use of Gears). There are a bunch of new features on the new release. On of the most exciting for me is the plugin installer and updater, it works awesome and is a very nice and makes for the convenient installing and upgrading. Its a very usefull feature and really does makes thing a lot easier.
I may need to scrap the photo gallery and code something better. I really dont like the way it is right now. Have to be off the keyboard as well and take a number of shots to update my photogallery. Its been a while since i last posted something new in there. Work has been strapped to a chair in my office for i think a year now. Hopefully i can get some updates into that area as well.
I think the new version also removed the lightbox for all images embedded on my post. I do however like the “Media Library” feature. Yet another thing that makes life a lot easier. I can only wish that install plugins on oscommerce could be as easy as how wordpress does it. Oscommerce does not even have the update notification feature even that would help a lot of people. The beauty of open source is that if you dont like how something works you can always grab the code and make it work your way, hopefully i can have enough time this year to work on my own release of Oscommerce. But for now will have to go Line By Line Day by Day and slowly but steady.
Finally Updated My Blog to WordPress 2.0.4
After 28 days, i finally got around to updating this blog to the latest WordPress release. Not many modifications to it.. GUI wise.. from the docs on the WordPress site its mostly just security fixes. Eventhough the wordpress upgrade is such a breeze and just takes 5 minutes tops, that is assuming your ISP does not suck, i still find it hard to find time to upgrade the thing.
These days it seem, there is always not enough time. So many things to do in so little time. It would be nice though for wordpress to have the upgrade in one click.. that would be a lot of help.. Next up is try to find some time to do some mods to this wordpress install to make the site a much nicer place to visit and also to post my new pictures on the gallery.
Global Outdoor Furniture Supplies Site
I just finished my new fully flash site for Global Outdoor Furniture Supplies.. Its a simple site effects and design wise.. what make it look good are the pictures used for backgrounds. If i where more free to make a decision as to where the site is going to be used, i think it fit perfectly to a photographers portfolio site. You can check out the site at http://www.globaloutdoorfurniture.com
A bit more info on the site.. i took all the pictures.. some of it might look as good as the others… the site is made just in flash.. using one main movie and small bits all over the place.. Like the catalogs area.. each one of those each a small swf file..
One caution though.. the site is not 100% complete.. it still got some rough edges i need to iron out.. but otherwise the site is all good.. hope you enjoy browsing through the site as much as i enjoyed working on it.
Time for some LINUX
I just got the ubuntu linux cd i requested from ubuntu linux. It was nice of them to send me the cd free of charge and instead of just one copy they sent me 15 copies which is nice, so i can give away some to my friends. The copy they sent included a live cd and an intel x86 installation cd in a rather nice container. i cant wait to try out the live cd. i alway try live cds first before formatting my linux pc which is right now running on CentOS. Maybe i will just get another pc system just for trying out this linux distros and have my current one stay as is. One thing that i dont like about linux is there are too many flavors of it.. you will have to spend a lot of time and effort trying each getting the feel of it then scraping it and then off of the next one. I agree variety is quite good but too much of a good thing is also bad. Well enough of that…
I will try an mess around with the cds given to me by ubuntu.. maybe i will just install it on a virtual machine since i will probably within a week get tired of it and look of a new one.
