Oscommerce Problems After Upgrading to PHP 4.4.5
If you are having Access Violation errors on oscommerce after upgrading to PHP 4.4.5 on windows 2003, the only solution i found so far is to downgrade to php 4.4.4. i think something is wrong with the php 4.4.5 release. all of my other php sites works, except those that use oscommerce.
I have done everything i can find to make oscommerce work.. i have checked the permissions on the php dir and i also checked on the configuration.. everything seems to be perfect.
I guess i will have to wait for the next php release to upgrade for now im sticking to php 4.4.4. If anyone out there know of a solution to get oscommerce running on php 4.4.5 please do drop me a comment.
Printing CD Covers
Not getting it to fit perfectly is always a problem with printing CD Covers. First i tried the tool that came with NERO but i cant seem to make it work and it kinda limited. So i thought i would just make photoshop do it for me. Its actually kinda simple, first i thought i can make it fit exactly if i measure the cd case accurately and just draw lines and etc.. but when it came to printing it doesnt quite work.. plus the HP printer driver crashes every now and then is not helping..
The paper i used for the cover is the cheap glossy waterproof photopaper you can get from CDR KING for about 10 pesos a sheet, and the cd case is from GLOBAL VILLAGE i think those are 10 pesos a piece for small purchases and 7 pesos if you buy a couple of hundreds. I purchased a cheap printer for this project alone.. the cheapest and nice looking printer i found was HP F380. it can print scan and copy. it works ok most of the time.. i had to restart my computer every now and then cause the driver for the printer did not work well.. or maybe it is just me..
In printing on photoshop go to print preview and make sure that that “scale to fit” is UNCHECKED. also check on the paper size you have set on the Page Setup make sure its A4. if you have some used papers lying around.. before printing all of the covers you need.. it pays to first test on draft mode.. (this way you can save lots and lots of ink)
If you are using an HP printer with 21 and 22 cartridges, be advised that for 100 cds to print all the the covers and the cd labels(im going to post later on how to it using the cheap cd label stickers you can get at CDRKING) it consumed about 3 color cartridges and 2 black cartridges.. The ink cartridges that came with the printer lasted only when i was doing my tests prints.

My Recent Obsession
I have recently looked into java again.. its been years since i have looked into JAVA.. and before i found it hard to work with and very hard to understand. But recently things about JAVA is a lot easier. I started by downloading the NETBEAN IDE.. and i must say is really easy to work with and has made my recent pludge into JAVA a breeze.
SynPOS, a java POS program that syncs with an oscommerce installation is that application that has fueled this recent obsession. Actually it was only the “sychronize with oscommerce” part that got me back into JAVA. Thanks God SynPOS is opensource, i can just download the source and try and figure out why the synchorize part is not working.
But sadly, i have not been able to get the sychonize on the SynPOS working. I have already checked on their forums but there is nothing much in there, i can even just count the number of posts on the forum. Their WIKI is also filled with empty pages. I also have try goggling it but to no avail.
I will try to figure out why the SynPOS synchronize thing is not working over the coming days and i will also be posting about my adventures with trying to learn JAVA again…
Blog Now Updated to 2.10
It seems that these days the only thing i have a chance to do is to update the wordpress on this blog. Its been a while since i have checked the release of the wordpress. When i found out that a new version was released i did not miss a beat and started on the process of uploading the new files..
It is always a breeze to update wordpress.. upload the files and visit one page and thats it.. amazing stuff.. Sometimes you dont notice how easy it is compared to other programs out there.. i was recently in CGI hell, when i was asked to update the forum script written in PERL. man is was so darn complicated that it took me the most part of the day to work it out.. What puzzles me is that why would someone go for a commercial CGI forum scripts when there are tons of freely available forums software out there like PHPBB and etc.
Best of all the free ones are open source, with a very good user base and you can find help on getting just about everything on those working.
